Geography
Dittisham is located in South Devon, England.
The village is situated on the eastern edge of that region of Devon known as the South Hams and on the west bank of the River Dart, about three miles from the river estuary. The South Hams is a farming area of rolling hills and river valleys, dotted with small villages and hamlets that lie between the southern slopes of Dartmoor and the beaches of the South Devon coast.
Dittisham enjoys a sheltered location in the steep wooded valley from the prevailing south westerly winds; and the curved sweep of hills on the east side of the river gives the villages near all round protection. Also, as Dittisham lies on the South West Peninsula of England which is swept by the Gulf Stream it enjoys a generally mild and gentle climate.
Seven miles up river to the north west, lies the ancient town of Totnes, the limit of tidal navigation, while two miles down river, to the south, is the historic town of Dartmouth which guards the entrance to the sea. The holiday resorts of Torbay (Torquay, Paignton and Brixham) are only a few miles from Greenway Quay on the opposite side of the river.
