The Parish of Dittisham will be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the best possible style.
We start on Saturday, June 2nd at 12.00 noon by a peal of bells in St George’s Church, where you can wander around and admire the wonderful floral arrangements and the exhibition of archive material connecting the Church with its history and the Royal Family.
From the Church you can walk down to the Ham where you will find several large marquees.
Our programme of events is as follows:-
12.30 Torbay Brass Band to play. Local organisations holding stalls, bar open, light lunches on sale, ice creams on sale. Raffle tickets on sale, prizes include donations from many local artists and businesses - you need to buy a ticket!
1.00 Sports events for the young and not so young. A dog show, Punch and Judy, bouncy castle, lots of outside stalls and games to play.
3.00 Cream Teas on sale courtesy of the W. I. and Torbay Brass band to play again.
4.00 A fashion show, with appropriate music and commentary depicting the 6 decades of the Queen’s reign.
In the evening a dance with live music and a disco in the marquee. There will be a lamb roast, a barbeque and the bar open
Sunday, June 3rd.
11:00 Church Service in St George’s followed by a peal of bells.
12.30 in the marquee a reading of a poem specially written by Brian Patten for this occasion, followed by The Big Jubilee Lunch. Everyone welcome, please bring a dish to share. We are inviting all the children to bake a Queen Elizabeth sandwich cake, appropriately decorated with a prize for the most imaginative.
At approximately 3 pm there will be a narration by Peter Forde of the history of Queen Elizabeth II written by Ron Travers and songs sung by local choirs in keeping with the times and accompanied by Jonathan Watts.
We shall be distributing our Commemorative Mugs to all the children who live in the Parish and making the raffle draw at approximately 4 pm.
The Dittisham Sailing Club are organising a “60 Guineas Regatta Race” also at 4pm making the course as close to the Ham as possible, which should create a lot of interest. Please contact Mike Bennett on 722307 if you would like to know more.
Monday, June 4th.
The marquee will be the venue for a commercial trade fair, if you would like to hire a stand please contact Sally Bond on 722486.
In the evening we shall be lighting our beacon which stands at Bozomzeal, we wait to hear when we are expected to light it but the new cadets at Dartmouth Royal Naval College will be on hand to help with the proceedings.
